Anti-AgingWhen Should You Start Anti-Aging Treatments?
July 18, 2026 · 3 min read · By Dr. Zeba Chhapra, MBBS DDVL
This is where most people get it wrong. They wait for wrinkles to appear — and then try to reverse time.
But skin doesn't age overnight. Aging is a slow, cumulative process driven by collagen loss, sun exposure, and lifestyle.
Let's break it down, decade by decade.
In your early 20s: focus on prevention
- Sunscreen — every single day
- Basic skincare
- Healthy lifestyle
No aggressive treatments needed.
Mid to late 20s: collagen starts declining
This is when collagen production starts declining. Subtle preventive treatments can begin:
- Medical-grade skincare
- Occasional facials or gentle treatments
Early 30s: the "pre-aging" phase
Fine lines may start, and skin recovery slows. This is the ideal time to introduce:
- Skin boosters
- Collagen-stimulating treatments
- Early botulinum toxin (if needed)
Late 30s and beyond: maintaining and restoring
Now the focus shifts to addressing:
- Volume loss — dermal fillers
- Skin laxity — HIFU & RF skin tightening
- Deeper lines
Treatments become more structured and customised.
The key idea I always explain to my patients: anti-aging is not about looking younger overnight. It's about aging better over time.
Start early, go slow, stay consistent.
